Education at Tech: Overview

The depth and breadth of faculty expertise in all areas of optics and photonics is reflected in the curriculum, which provides students with a solid foundation in such areas as fiber optics, laser theory, optical engineering and Fourier optics, and holography.

As a multidisciplinary field, optics and photonics crosses several disciplinary boundaries. In addition to the core undergraduate and graduate courses taught in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, the School offers a joint undergraduate certificate in optics in conjunction with the School of Physics. Courses related to optics and photonics are offered by the Schools of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, and Physics.

Admission to Georgia Tech's more than seventy master's and doctoral programs is overseen by the Graduate Admissions Office. The Office of Undergraduate Admission processes all applications for the more than thirty undergraduate degree programs offered at Tech.
