Industry and Government Partnerships
Georgia Tech receives significant industrial and federal government support to fund research and education in optics and photonics. High national rankings for the major schools involved in optics, combined with activities in several research centers and the Georgia Tech Research Institute, place Georgia Tech among the nation's top institutions in optics and photonics.
Plans are under way for state-of-the-art nanofabrication facilities at the existing Microelectronics Research Center as well as the Nanotechnology Research Center, whose construction began in early 2006. These facilities will provide Georgia Tech with exceptional resources to conduct outstanding and innovative research. In addition, technology transfer and the spin-off of start-up companies in optics and photonics are facilitated by Georgia Tech's Venture Lab and the Advanced Technology Development Center, the Institute's high-tech business incubator.
Another key resource is the Industrial Partnership Program in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE), which is designed to create an environment conducive to enhanced and accelerated technology and knowledge transfer between academia and industry. The program is especially useful to employers seeking highly qualified candidates with optics and photonics expertise.
The program allows industry to participate at various membership levels in support of the Optics and Photonics research group. Membership provides corporate partners with flexible and tailored access to students, research, faculty, publications, seminars, workshops, and regularly scheduled conferences. Graduate students may also be supported via named fellowships.
